T.C.F.C U15s v Staining Juniors U15s in the Blackpool & District League11 April 2010 , Kick Off : 14:30 Score 5 - 0
A 12 day break for some and a midweek combined U14/U15 friendly against the Blackpool U14's for others was just what was needed as TCFC came back from the Easter break refreshed and put on a strong 2nd half performance to defeat Staining 5-0. Although dominant from the 1st whistle Thornton were a little 'cagey' in the opening minutes trying to play patient controlled football but lapsing now and again and lashing out at one or two speculative shots that came to nothing. The breakthrough came on 27 minutes when Jordan Schofield arrived late in the box to head home a long Isaac Hay throw in from 12 yards. This was to be the only goal of the half but nerves were calmed and patience rewarded 2 minutes after the break when Jordan again scored again from a similar distance, this time driving a low shot through a crowd of players, the majority of the Thornton contingent in the crowded box claiming it hit them on the way in. This was the tonic Thornton needed as they immediately settled down and started to play some good football. 2 became 3 four minutes later as Tom Smith got on the end of a Reece Hughes freekick from deep and guided it back acroos the six yard box to Mark Bone who struck it home. Thornton had to wait till the 70th minute for the 4th when Ash Calland burst through the Staining defence into the box and fired home from 12 yards. Staining enjoyed a good 10 minute period towards the end forcing a good save out of Ben Coulburn and making our back line earn their tray of chips, but the icing on the cake came in the last minute when Reece Hughes and Danny Hadgraft made a great move down the right before passing the ball across to Mark Bone who added his 2nd and Thornton's 5th. A good performance from all 15 and it was nice to see the Danny Ellwood back in action after his enforced absence. The back line were well organised, Isaac Hay and Loz Maddox worked extremely hard to keep the momentum going in midfield, but the man of the match was Jordan Schofield for his 2 goals and another excellent performance dempnstrating his versatility T.C.F.C Goal Scorers
