Warton Typhoons U15s v T.C.F.C U15s in the Blackpool & District League25 April 2010 , Kick Off : 14:30 Score 0 - 3
A laboured 3-0 victory against Warton, all the goals coming in the last quarter of the game. Four games in eight days was having its toll on Thornton and wholesale changes to give people a rest and others a run out didn't help as as we coughed and spluttered throughout the 1st half and hardly caused Warton any problems at all. Indeed it was Warton themselves that could have taken the lead but for Ben Coulburn tipping over a wickedly inswinging corner midway through the half. Manager Steve Coulburn did an impression of Alex Ferguson at half time with the 'hair dryer treatment' (though his literal interpretion of 'squeaky bum time' was definately not for the feint hearted) and he made drastic changes using his 4 unused substitutes. To be honest the 2nd half wasn't much better, though we played with a bit more purpose and pinned Warton virtually in their half, Matty Currie going close with a couple of headers, but with the clock ticking away, particularly the referee's which appeared to jump 10 minutes impatience began to creep in. Warton had a man sent off for apparently swearing at his own manager and though this wasn't a defining moment in the game it showed too that our pressure was telling on them. The breakthrough came on 66 minutes when Ash Calland played the ball to Connor Addison who just about got it under control, span round and hit a rather clumsy shot past the Warton Keeper. The relief from all the Thornton contingent was easy to see and keeping the pressure up we added a 2nd 3 minutes from time when Isaac Hay headed in powerfully from Alex Foster's cross. In the last minute Ash Calland made it 3, Connor this time suppling the pass, with Ash winning the battle with his defender to score from 15 yards. Not a vintage performance but 3 points all the same. A day for steady performances which Alex Radcliffe and Alex Foster demonstrated, but for his work rate, effort and commitment Danny Ellwood was voted Thornton's man of the match. T.C.F.C Goal Scorers
