BJFF U10s B Team v T.C.F.C U10s White in the Poulton & District League24 April 2010 , Kick Off : 10:30 Score 2 - 3
Thornton lined up with Teo Beaume in goals, with James Almond and James Bethell ahead of him in defence. Luke Eastham was in the centre of the midfield, with Kieran Pipe and Matty Lee either side of him. Oliver Mellor began the game upfront. Ben Smyth was the only substitute. BJFF kicked the game off but Thornton won possession straight away with a strong challenge from Luke in the middle. He played the ball quickly to Matty on the left wing who in turn found Oliver with a diagonal ball to the edge of the box. Oliver controlled well and held the ball up before laying it off to Kieran who shot just wide of the target. From a throw, BJ attacked down the left touchline before their winger cut inside and found his team mate in the centre, Teo was alert and came out of his goals to narrow the angle, forcing the striker to shoot way wide of goal. Kieran won the ball just inside his own half before playing it forward to Matty who turned his marker and then dribbled towards the right side of the BJ box. Spotting the keeper a couple of yards off his line, Matty lobbed him from a tight angle across goal and into the top corner of the net, a fantastic goal, 0-1. Thornton’s lead only lasted a matter of minutes though, BJ broke on the counter attack and their striker found himself through on goal, with just the keeper to beat he struck a shot low that crept under Teo’s body and into the back of the net, 1-1. BJFF quickly found a second goal, this time from a free kick after James B handled just outside the box. The free kick was fired towards goal and Teo got a touch to the ball, but he could only help it on its way into the top corner, 2-1. Teo did well to deny BJ a third with a fine punch to knock the ball out for a corner after a powerful shot from the edge of the box. Thornton countered from the corner and Matty found Oliver with a neat ball through the BJ defence, Oliver shot from just inside the box but the keeper saved down to his left. The score was level going into the break after Kieran found the back of the net at the second time of asking when he followed up the rebound to his first shot that was parried, 2-2. Half Time 2-2 The first chance of the second half came from a Thornton free kick midway inside the BJ half. Luke floated the ball into the penalty area and Matty jumped to meet the ball with his head, but his effort went just wide of the target. Kieran forced a fine save out of the BJ keeper after a powerful drive from outside of the box, the ball was put behind for a corner, from which BJ countered and won themselves a corner. The ball came in and James A headed onto his own bar and out for another corner which Teo dealt with easily. Luke won the ball in the centre of the pitch and carried it forward before playing a quick one-two with Kieran on the edge of the box, Luke then beyond the keeper and into the back of the net, 2-3. Ben came on to replace Oliver up front and was quickly in the action when Kieran played a great ball over the top. Ben ran on to the pass and shot from inside the area, the keeper was beaten but the ball went inches wide. Matty won the ball on the halfway line before playing it down the wing to Kieran who beat his man before swinging a cross in to the centre. The BJ keeper came off his line to catch the ball just as Luke was about to get his head to it. Luke won a free kick outside his own box, James A took the kick but a BJ player was the first to the ball and they came back on the attack, a shot from around 10 yards was well held by Teo on his line. The final moments of the game saw Luke giving away a free kick right on the edge of the area, but Luke was alert when the kick was taken and he headed behind for a corner. From the corner, Kieran cleared and Ben picked up the loose ball and dribbled it into the BJ half before playing in Matty, but his shot went wide of the target. Full Time 2-3 Man of the Match was awarded to Matty Lee for an excellent performance in midfield, he was involved in everything from defence through to attack. T.C.F.C Goal Scorers
