Fleetwood Town U10s A Team v T.C.F.C U10s Red in the Poulton & District League20 March 2010 , Kick Off : 10:30 Score 4 - 1
Thornton lined up with Alex McCaskill in goals. A back two of Jack Porter and Jack Gardner. Jonathan Cardwell in centre midfield, with Euan Hockey to the right, and Ryan Gardner to the left. Matty Lee was the lone striker. Thornton kicked the game off and immediately looked to attack Fleetwood from the off, with Matty going close to breaking the deadlock in the opening thirty seconds of the game, but his shot went narrowly wide of the target. Fleetwood put a long ball over the top which Jack P headed clear to Jonathan, his quick switch in play to the left wing fed Ryan in, but his shot from the edge of the box was blocked. Another long ball came in over the top towards the Thornton defence, Jack G couldn’t get his head to it and Fleetwood capitalised and scored the opening goal, 1-0. Minutes later, Thornton found themselves going two goals down in similar circumstances to the first goal, 2-0. Euan tired his luck from distance and saw his shot being deflected wide for a corner. Matty cross the ball in from the left and Ryan was the first man to it, heading straight into the keepers arms. Fleetwood attacked Thornton on the counter and played a ball through the Thornton defence which brought Alex rushing out of his area to clear. Ryan went close again with his head, this time it was Jonny who supplied the cross into the middle from the corner. The header went inches wide of the target, and out for a goal kick. Jack P won a strong challenge on the right before playing the ball down the line to Euan who in turn played it inside to Jonathan, who shot from just outside the box, but he couldn’t keep it down and the ball went just over the bar. Jack P made a well timed tackle on the edge of the Thornton box to break up another Fleetwood attack before clearing the danger. Two more goals in quick succession on the stroke of half time saw Thornton going into the break 4-0 down. Half Time 4-0 Thornton were told to forget about the previous 20 minutes and go out and prove to themselves and the coaches that they could put up a fight against a strong Fleetwood side. They were told to go out and win the second half. The second half began much brighter and within minutes of the restart Thornton had pulled a goal back after some excellent passing football which Matty finished off with a cool finish from inside the box, 4-1. Jack P set Thornton up on their next attack when he won the ball on the far side from a Fleetwood throw, he played the ball inside to Euan who shot powerfully towards the top corner of the goal, but the ball missed the target by an inch. Jonathan settled well in the second half and was playing some excellent passes to the attacking players around him. Jack G also seemed more settled in the second half after some nervy moments in the opening 20 minutes. Ryan and Euan looked threatening on either wing and both went close to getting Thornton’s second of the game. Matty was holding the ball up well for Thornton before players came forward to support him to allow him to release the ball. Despite a much improved second half, Thornton could only manage to get one goal, but the spirit and belief in the team throughout the second half showed that they were much more capable than the score line suggests. Full Time 4-1 Man of the Match was awarded to Euan Hockey T.C.F.C Goal Scorers
